Practice Schedule

The BENT OXEN Shred Team is a low-key group of snowboarders and skiers that plan to ride together on a regular basis. We have a couple volunteer coaches who have committed to being there for the kids when possible. Our goal is to ride two to three times each week for practice. For those of us who are USASA competitors, we’ll be training for the events we plan to compete in. For those of us who are just learning, we’ll help with the basics. Everyone is welcome as long as you agree to be kind to each other, try hard, and to have fun.

Please let us know when your riders plan on being at practice.

Our volunteer coaches would love to know if your rider will be at the event. Please RSVP in the Team Snap App (with yes or no)!

The chalet as an awesome view of the park. It’s a great place for parents to hangout!

Night riding on the south chair lift line is always fun!

Official Hyland Practice
Tuesday & Thursday Nights

The team will ride at Hyland Hills Tuesday & Thursday night starting in January 2024 through March 2024. Our goal will be to be break up into groups by focus & skill level. Based on the riders that RSVP, we’ll ask coaches and parents to support the groups.

  • 5:30 PM : Arrive & Get Ready
We hope most people can be Hyland by 5:30 PM so that we can get ready together.

  • 5:45 PM : Group up & Head out!
We’ll try to be on the snow by 5:45 PM. The team will group up based on skill set and where our skiers and snowboarders want to ride.

  • 6:30 PM : Break
Most groups will come in at least once during the night to take a short break. Usually that’s around 6:30 PM

  • 7:30 PM : Stickers & Go Home
Ideally, the team can be officially done at 7:30 PM each night. If families ride longer, that’s ok with us. But please come in and say goodbye to the group and let us know if you’ve earned any stickers!

For parents dropping their riders off, please make sure you RSVP so that we know to keep an eye out for your kiddo!

Hyland Hills has the best park in Minnesota!

Hyland Open Riding
Saturday & Sunday Mornings

While we will not have official practices, many of our riders like to meet at Hyland on Saturday & Sunday mornings. There’s usually a perfect window for riding the freshly built park from when the ropes start turning at 9 AM through 11 AM or so. It’s usually not as busy for the first hour so it’s a great time to learn the rope or new features.

After that, it gets a little wild! As a general suggestion, post in the chat if you’re going to be at Hyland and you’ll likely find someone to ride with. On Saturday and Sunday mornings, if our coaches are there they’d be happy to provide some extra support.

The 15’ halfpipe at Buck Hill is always fun!

Buck Hill Fridays
Friday Nights*

We plan to check out Buck Hill a handful of times this winter as a team. They have some fun and exciting terrain that the team can experience. For example, Buck Hill is the only ski area in the Midwest with at Halfpipe most seasons.

  • Halfpipe

  • Big Jump Line

  • BX Course

6:00 PM : Arrive & Get Ready
Buck Hill is a little further for many of us. We’ll be there by 6PM and will hope to meet up with the crew.

9:00 PM : Head Home
We’ll stay until we’re ready to be done but typically three hours is enough.

Tom O’Neill

* Starting in January 2024, we’ll plan to go to Buck Hill if there are not conflicting competitions and if we get interest through RSVP at least two days in advance.
